With over 32 years of experience as contractors and sub-contractors, N. E. Bridge Contractors, Inc. originally specialized in the construction and rehabilitation of existing bridges. Contracts included, but were not limited to the following; staging, pin and hanger replacement, bearing repair and replacement, structural steel rehab, erecting new steel, jacking, etc.

In 1978 New England Welding Contractors, Inc. was started.  The company was hired by various construction-type businesses to do equipment repairs both on the road, (at the job site) and at their places of business.  It did not take long for our business to establish itself as not only being very hard working but also very talented and well liked.  Soon after we were asked if we would be interested in becoming qualified to do welding repairs on bridges, the necessary tests were taken, and we became certified bridge welders.

After being a welder subcontractor to several construction companies in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire, an interest was sparked in getting involved in other areas of bridge construction and rehabilitation.  New England Welding Contractors, Inc. became New England Bridge Contractors, Inc., employees were added, more equipment was purchased, bonding was obtained and contracts were being signed.  Now we were not just limited to welding on bridges, we had the capability to do complete bridge rehabilitations.  Jacking of bearings both repair and replacement, pin and hanger repair and replacement, removing rivets and replacing them with bolts, structural steel repair and replacement, and expansion joint repair and replacement were just some of the items that New England Bridge Contractors, Inc. were solicited to bid on.  The company grew three fold in just 5 years. New England Bridge Contractors, Inc. was rapidly becoming very well known in the bridge rehabilitation business.

Now being a well-established subcontractor, we decided to become a general contracting company and bid on both new and rehab bridge projects under New England Bridge Contractors, Inc.  Again, employees were added, new equipment was bought and the bonding capacity was increased.  Bidding was actively pursued in all of New England as a general contractor.  This proved to be a rewarding experience for the company.  Expansion, again, was three fold and business was non-stop.

Along with the changing economic impact of the mid 1990’s, changes were also happening in the Bridge and Highway departments.  With approximately 15 years of experience in bridge rehab and construction, the company was aware of the structural condition of the bridges all over New England.  Realizing that budget cuts and downsizing were about to happen, there would be other avenues that would need to be pursued in order to keep the company going.  Inspections of bridges were going to become a commonplace.  There was going to be a great need for safe, reliable, and sometimes unique methods by which engineers could inspect bridges.

An auction was held; all equipment not necessary for the new challenge was sold.  New equipment needed for inspections were purchased, and New England Bridge Contractors, Inc. became N. E. Bridge Contractors, Inc.  Rigging equipment, under bridge inspection machines, barges, boats, man lifts, and bucket vans were purchased.  Many of the engineering firms that were solicited already knew our company through the construction and rehab contracts.  It did not take long for word to get out about the change and a very welcome change it turned out to be.

Today along with bridge inspections, repairs, maintenance and construction, we provide equipment for utility companies to inspect, repair and replace gas, electric, and water lines.  Also companies specializing in power generation use our barges to assist in their under water turbine testing.

Our clientele has grown to include many of the very best, well-known engineering firms, construction and utility companies in the Northeast, Southeast, and the world.  We also always welcome those who are not so well known, or are just getting started.  It has now been over 30 years that N.E. Bridge Contractors has been in the bridge business, and those 32 plus years have been very successful and rewarding.
